Huntspill and District 212-6 beat Glastonbury 2nd XI 211-8 by four wickets

HUNTSPILL and District came out on top in Division Five’s basement battle, beating Glastonbury by four wickets on Saturday.

In reply to Glastonbury’s 221-8, Huntspill cruised home with more than six overs to spare, thanks largely to 47 from Mark Crawford and an unbeaten 33 from C. Nayagam.

Craig Slack (36) also chipped in with vital runs to help seal a comprehensive win for the home side.

Earlier, Chris Herbert was the mainstay of the Glastonbury innings with a fine century at the top of the order, while J. Barron (23) was the next highest scorer.

With the ball, Tom Garner was the pick of the Huntspill attack with 2-29 from his six overs.

There was also two wickets for Dan Counsell (2-48) and one apiece for Mark Crawford (1-33) and Sam Lillycrop (1-40).

Counsell made the first breakthrough for Huntspill, dismissing opener L. Graham (16), before Crawford removed H. Rumney for the same score.

But at the other end, Herbert was leading the way with a well-compiled innings.

His class and composure guided Glastonbury to a competitive total, all be it slightly below par.

Dan Cavill (21) and Sam Lillycrop (17) got Huntspill’s reply off to a strong start, before Garner, in at number three, continued the charge.

All three were dismissed by the bowling of Herbert (1-19) and S. Wade (2-57) respectively, but a partnership of 50 between Slack and Crawford repaired the minor damage.

As Huntspill edged closer to victory, both batsmen were dismissed in relatively quick succession – and it was left to Nayagam and G. Dyer (5no) to see the hosts home.
