Somerset Division One West

Cleeve West 1 Burnham United 0

BURNHAM United are without a win in six games following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Cleeve West Town.

The home side struck the winner early in the second-half to condemn Lee Vaughan’s side to a narrow defeat.

Burnham were without Russell Holley was forced out due to injury, allowing Matthew Mitchell into the squad for his first appearance.

A lively start to the game saw a couple of half chances for both teams.

The Seasiders soon began to dictate possession as they often do with the midfield controlling the tempo throughout the half.

Defensively Burnham dealt with everything that came their way limiting the home side to a few half chances at most.

The best chance of the half fell to Steven Leaf following a flick from Dax Vincent.

Leaf one on one with too much time to think about opted to place the ball in the car park rather than the net.

The message was simple at half-time, more of the same and the goal will come.

Two minutes into the second-half, the Cleeve striker shot through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner – a far from ideal start for the Seasiders.

It took 10 minutes for Burnham to settle into the half and soon began to open up Cleeve.

Leaf was denied in the final minutes by an outstanding save from the keeper when one-on-one.

Burnham host Portishead Town Reserves in the cup on Saturday.
