JUST under 100 members and guests of Brean Golf Club enjoyed the annual presentation night hosted by club presidents, Richard and Bridget House in the newly re-furbished Dickies room at Brean Leisure Park last Friday night.

Aaron Puddy collected the Most Improved Golfer award whilst the Team of the Year award was collected by Brian Read’s Avalon League Championship winning side.

One of the biggest cheers of the night went to Glenys Flett who was awarded with Club person of the Year for the positive impact she has made on the club from behind the bar in the past year.

The Golfer of the Year was shared between Murray Parsons and Steve Jones who both enjoyed prolific years with multiple wins each.

The Ladies captain Suzanne Hatfield received the Ladies Championship Trophy as did her male counterpart Stuart Wills with the Club Championship silverware. Brean may well be unique in being able to claim both serving club captains won their respective Championships during their term in office.

The evening concluded with 2015 captain Stuart Wills presenting his charity cheque for the year to Jo Clements from his chosen charity In Charley's Memory.

The members had raised just over £4,000 pounds for the local charity which helps young people with mental health issues.

Jo thanked the members for their amazing effort and explained where this money would go and the help it would be able to provide to the Charity's work.

The following morning the new course layout was officially opened.

This now allows the next stage of construction to take place for the exciting new clubhouse/leisure development planned for the club based on Brean Leisure Park.

Just after the ribbon cutting ceremony, completed by club president Richard House’s two young grandson’s, the annual battle between the main club team and the Seniors team for the Masterman Plate took place.

A closely contested match ended in a tie at four games each so with the Seniors already holding the Plate from last year they maintained their grip on it.

In the first individual competition played over the new par 69 layout at Brean Kevin Davies continued his excellent run of form.

He carded 42 points in the Super Series Stableford to win by four from Clive Goode. Goode defeated Aaron Puddy on a countback for second spot with Puddy settling for third.

The Somerset Bowl team moved through to the second round with a win over Wheathill at Mendip Spring on Sunday.

Brean won by 3.5 to 1.5 with the winning point being claimed by Murray Parsons and Roger Vaughan.

Russell and Matt Shaw and Andy Thomas and Dave Porter also claimed the other wins with the Welsh wizards of Jason Kidley and Leighton Jenkins getting a half.

Back at Brean, a quartet of Jones’s were winning the Texas Scramble for the Gordon Phippen Trophy. Dave, Eric, Steve and young Millie Jones combined for a nett 57.6 to win by just under half a shot from Graham Foy, Mike Carter, Bob Masterman and Dave Morgan. Third place went to Adam Cox, Steve Eley, CJ Organ and Simon Baunton,
