Sedgemoor 1 Burnham-on-Sea 0, ECVH 3

BURNHAM were unlucky not to get anything from this game.

They started brightly but had to withstand a lot of pressure during the middle period of the first half.

Fortunately, their GK, Sian Kelly, was in outstand- ing form and saved every- thing that the away team threw at her - including a one-handed save with her stick that had flicked off her own defender wrong footing her.

In front of her, the defence of Tracey Dunn, Imogen Wright and Nicky Glanville bravely playing in a thumb cast were equally as good.

They looked strong and composed at times and made some timely intercep- tions to ensure the score was kept to just one at half- time and keep Burnham in the match.

Jemima Johnson had had a one on one with the goal- keeper after a strong, skilful run and Caroline Hunt saw her short corner strike saved in a half of rare chances.

Kerry Harvey worked in- credibly hard trying to link the attack and release the pressure as she dribbled the defence inside and out but just could not find the final pass.

Burnham had more chances in the second half but conceded a soft second goal just as they appeared to be getting back into it.

Most of their chances were coming from Harvey’s dynamic running and she pulled the ball back per - fectly for Hunt who, along with the rest of the team, thought she had equalised.

However, their goalkeep- er just got her foot to a low strike heading straight for the bottom corner at the last minute and then smothered the rebound ef- fort from Ellie Bishop.

Even an all-action display from Carly Bush could not create a goal but she went closer still when she hit a post and then just couldn’t reach a Glanville through ball before the onrushing keeper got there.

Hunt was getting more joy from her determined attacking runs as she and Bush see-sawed from mid- field desperately trying to find the breakthrough for their team.

With Ali Evely and Louise Peace working hard up and down the flanks, Burnham did everything but score.

They knew it was not to be their day when anoth- er Harvey run into the D sparked a mad goalmouth scramble that neither Johnson, Bush nor Hunt could get the final touch on to finally force the ball over the line and ECVH broke away up the other end and nicked their third.

POM: Caroline Hunt & Jemima Johnson Next match: Friday night at Taunton Vale (7.30pm start). Fitness training is cancelled next Monday (half-term) but there is a joint senior/junior session between 7-8pm at KAS.
