AFTER a morale-sapping defeat the week before against Taunton Vale, Burnham bounced back with a good team performance in their Sedgemoor 1 encounter with Taunton CS.

As usual they were under the cosh for large parts of the game, but stuck to their gameplan and forced their way into the game. Had they played for five more minutes they might have earned a draw.

They were 2-0 down by half time, through a penalty flick and a short corner. In open play the defence of Ali Evely, Nicki Glanville and Tracey Dunn were strong, and keeper Sian Kelly was back to her best. Caroline Hunt put in a selfless display with a 'man marking' role.

Burnham conceded again early in the second half before the comeback started. Carly Bush began to have an influence on the game, and Jo White and Louise Peace won more of the ball in the midfield.

Bush took a quick free hit on the halfway line which found the returning Amy Edmundson in the D, and she rounded the keeper to slot in.

Minutes later Burnham pulled another goal back to set up a tense finish. White and Peace combined and the cross was perfectly placed for Edmundson to sweep in from close range.

With CS on the ropes, Burnham went for the equaliser. A penalty corner came and went, then Edmundson was played in – she went around the keeper again but the pace of the ball was just too much and it ran agonisingly away from her off the pitch.

Final score: Taunton CS 3, Burnham 2

Player of the match: Caroline Hunt.

Next match is at home to Chard on Saturday, November 19 (10am).

Training continues 7-9pm on Mondays at KAS.
