GARY Anderson is one match away from retaining his PDC World Darts Championship crown, after defeating fellow Scot Peter Wright 6-3 to make the final.
Anderson, known as 'the Flying Scotsman' and now residing in Burnham-on-Sea, won his semi-final with Wright by holding off a determined comeback to book an Alexandra Palace showdown with world number one Michael van Gerwen tonight.
Wright may have been averaging 116 early on, but it was Anderson who took a 2-0 lead - only for Wright to pull one set back for 2-1.
Anderson restored his two-set advantage after throwing two maximums in a decisive leg, but Wright was playing superbly and came storming back - after Anderson missed double four for a 4-2 lead, Wright nailed double 12 to tie it up 3-3.
But from there it was the defending champion who moved up a gear, taking out 157 to lead 4-3, before winning each leg in the eighth set for 5-3.
Two further breaks finished the job, the match won 6-3, for Anderson's 17th consecutive Ally Pally victory.
An 18th will mean an unprecedented third World title in a row.
But to do that he will have to overcome the favourite for the competition, after Van Gerwen defeated Dutch compatriot Raymond van Barneveld 6-2, with a record-breaking 114.05 three-dart average.
The 'dream final' at Ally Pally will be live on Sky Sports from 7pm tonight.
