Wadebridge Camels 24, Burnham-on-Sea 15

BURNHAM travelled to Cornwall with a team whose average age was just 23 carrying high hopes of getting their season back on track, writes John Piper.

They started positively and opened their account after just five minutes when Lee Vaughan broke two tackles and raced in from 45 metres.

Burnham were flying, and great work by Farrell set off Cutter to storm up the middle then pass to Brandon Pettitt to score in his own inimitable style and make it 10-0.

For the rest of the first half Burnham continued to play at a furious pace but it remained 10-0 at the break.

Unfortunately, early in the second half Burnham lost two men to yellow cards, which quickly cost them two tries and a conversion.

Indiscipline then cost them penalties and poor tackling saw them ship two further tries as they fell 24-10 behind.

Burnham kept plugging away and eventually took a penalty scrum five metres out from which Sammy Lewis was able to dive over.

But try as they might they could not break Camels defence for another score, and it ended 24-15.

There were strong performances from man-of-the-match Vaughan and another exciting young prospect in Lewis, who got his backs moving swiftly.
