TAYLOR Stote, who plays at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club, captained King’s College Taunton to victory in their regional final to help his team reach the final of the Independent Schools’ Golf Association (ISGA) competition.

It is the first time that King’s College have reached the final, and they got there due to their convincing success against Monkton Combe School, which was played at Burnham and Berrow in difficult conditions.

The final, that will be contested by all of the top golfing schools in the country, will be played in late April at Royal St George’s at Sandwich in Kent – the venue where Darren Clarke won The Open back in 2011.

Alongside Stote, who also plays at Enmore Park Golf Club and is currently an England schoolboy, the winning team consisted of Will Chesterman (Yeovil Golf Club), Jack Veale (Long Sutton Golf Club) and Adam Shimali, who plays the majority of his golf in Kuwait and Dubai.

Master in charge of golf Phil Lewis said: “It’s really great that we have qualified for this final, especially after all of the hard work that the boys have put into their games.

“It has been an exciting season and the golf programme here continues to improve.

“We are hugely supported by our Old Aluredian (leavers) club and our close connections with Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club, who have given us a solid platform to enable any of our pupils to progress in the game, regardless of their standard.”

BURNHAM & Berrow professional George Ryall finished third in the Total Triumph Order Merit at Clevedon last week behind Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) and the overall winner Russell Berry (Broadway).

Despite the freezing temperatures the course was in good condition and it was imperative to hit the fairways to enable a competitive score to be compiled.

Next up, the Medals are hosted at Cirencester and Naunton Downs.
