Burnham-on-Sea 2, Taunton Vale 4ths 1

BURNHAM got back to winning ways with this hard-fought win over a team just behind them in the table.

The Blues started well – none more so than striker Amy Edmundson, who had a huge impact on the game.

Edmundson combined with fellow strikers Kerry Harvey and Hattie Lambourne to create chances.

A long ball from Nicki Glanville found Carly Bush one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and Jo White just failed to connect with her shot at the far post.

Minutes later, Glanville found Edmundson via a dummy from Harvey and she drove in to the right side of the D before crashing the ball home in the opposite corner.

Burnham were worthy leaders at half time but should really have been further ahead.

Ellie Bishop was in the right place at the far post for a Louise Peace cross which she just failed to connect with before Harvey saw her goal-bound effort saved.

The defence of Glanville, Tracey Dunn, Emma Ballard and Imogen Wright looked compact and secure, and used the ball well.

Yet the visitors equalised from a well-worked short corner and put the Blues under pressure in the second half.

Fortunately, goalkeeper Sian Kelly bailed them out when called upon, and the energetic Edmundson stepped up again when her team needed her.

Taking a pass from Jemima Johnson on the left, Edmundson set off on a dazzling dribble across to the right before scoring the winner with a carbon copy of her first goal.

This time, Burnham stayed strong – determined to see the result out – and Ballard and Glanville epitomised this with their calm and impressive display in defence.
