Somerset County League Division 1W
Burnham United 2, Minehead 3

BURNHAM and Minehead served up an entertaining game on Saturday, with the visitors just coming out on top.

Minehead went ahead after 30 minutes with a disputed penalty which knocked Burnham out of their stride after a good start for the Seasiders, but Burnham got themselves back into the game right on half time through a Finley Wilkinson header at the far post.

The second half started with Burnham looking to build on the equaliser, and the hosts were unlucky on 55 minutes when Stuart Green hit the bar from 20 yards.

Minehead retook the lead from cross on the right headed home, but again Burnham responded within minutes through a Wilkinson free kick placed into the top corner.

Burnham didn’t learn from Minehead’s second as they scored a carbon copy third 15 minutes from time to take all three points.

Burnham United: Matthew Dibble, Paul Grant, Stuart Green, Russell Holley, Edward Lamb, Elliot Lamb, William Lamb, Jessie McQuaid, Alex Plume, Joe Selway, Finley Wilkinson. Subs: Michael Burnell, Dan Reason.

This weekend, United host sixth-placed Uphill Castle.

HIGHBRIDGE Town also fell to a defeat over the Easter weekend, losing 2-1 at Uphill Castle on Monday.

Town travel to fourth-placed Winscombe on Saturday before hosting Uphill again for the final match of the season on Saturday April 29.
