Burnham 253-5 beat Purnells 214 by 39 runs

BRAD House scored an excellent century to help Burnham past Purnells on Saturday.

Burnham batted first and began their innings brightly, with Pete Harris (44) and Dave Worthington (19) putting together a solid opening stand.

There was no let-up for the home side’s bowling attack once the openers were back in the pavilion, as House combined with Rob Driver to help Burnham build towards a big total.

Both passed their half-centuries before Driver departed for 56, with House going on to make his innings a memorable one as he brought up his century.

The batsman was eventually dismissed for 103, but his innings had been crucial in ensuring Burnham posted a competitive 253-5.

Purnells also got off to a good start with the bat, with D. Redwood (47) and L. Redwood (54) compiling a second-wicket partnership that proved difficult for Burnham to break.

Once that pair had been removed, however, there was little resistance from the middle and lower order as James Annison (3-26) and Driver (3-39) impressed with the ball.

Burnham’s 35 points from the victory ensures they sit fourth with two games to play.

The first of those is this Saturday as they welcome the side currently directly below them in the table, Weston-super-Mare 2nds.
