PAUL Waplington, the 2016 Enmore Park Golf Club Seniors captain, chose Dainton Park Golf Club in Newton Abbott for his away day.

On a warm, sunny day, 36 players contested the King Cup.

Dave Keates came third with 38 points and the cup was won by Steve Lukins, who won on countback from Tony Pomeroy when they both registered 42 points (six under par).

The Patterson Shield for the best fourball of the day was won by Dave Keates, Adrian Keates, Chris Topps and Ian Edwards with 118 points, beating Mervyn Slocombe, Brian Parker, John Rigler and Tony Pomeroy by two points.

Keates also won the longest drive competition, and nearest the pin on two different short holes were both won by Jess Lawrence.

Meanwhile, Enmore Royals took the Trophy back from Saunton, who travelled to Enmore on Sunday in glorious weather, winning 5½ to 4½.

Rob Fear and Derek Bremner claimed a crucial win in the last match.

NETT 65 was the winning number in all three of the men’s division’s in the August Monthly Medal at Brean Golf Club on Sunday.

The biggest winner was Welshman Rob Chard in Division 3, as he romped to a five-stroke success over Steve Hill, with Jeff Read third on 72.

Another Welsh winner came in Division 1, as Jason Kidley took top spot by just a single shot from Stuart Wills, one ahead of third-placed Dan Broom.

John Cullinan claimed the Division 2 prize with his two-stroke win over Pete Dunn and Trevor Guy.

Liz Blackwell won the Ladies’ event, ending a shot ahead of Gail Mason, with Suzanne Hatfield third.

Three pairings tied the best score of the day in the Betterball Stableford Super Series.

The three scorecards of 46 points belonged to Byron Lismore & CJ Organ, Murray Parsons & Tony Richards and Jason Kidley & Mel Brown.

Parsons & Richards were awarded first place with the better back total of 25.

David Hunter added another success to his list with a win in the August Seniors Medal.

His superb nett 65 left him one clear of runner-up Mike Allen, with John Cranley third on 67 in the top flight.

Bob Toller was the winner of Division 2 on 70, after edging a countback with Colin Roberts; Vince Ford was third on 71.

THE Gloucester and Somerset PGA pros have kicked off their winter season with the traditional curtain raiser yesterday (Wednesday) and today.

The annual Matchplay Championship takes place at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club, involving the leading 16 ranked players from last season’s Total Triumph Order of Merit.

That line-up includes George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow), who is the fourth seed, and Andrew March (Brean).

Defending champion Giuseppe Licata returns as top seed, and is looking to secure his third successive Matchplay crown, and fifth in total.
