Worle 3, Burnham Utd 0

BURNHAM United went to Worle on Saturday for a clash of two form sides, hoping to extend their winning run to five games.

But instead it was Worle – whose last loss was away to Burnham in September – who claimed a fourth straight victory to sit second in the table.

In a game which was played in dreadful conditions, both teams tried to play football but, in a first half of very few chances, the half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Burnham had the first clear chance but Jordie Eldridge’s shot past the keeper was cleared off the line by a Worle defender.

Worle took the lead soon after from a header but Charlie Harding had a great chance to equalise but shot narrowly wide.

However, two late goals by the home team gave Worle a 3-0 victory, consigning the visitors to their third league defeat of the season and leaving them seventh in the table, on 18 points from nine games.

Jack Hodrien scored a brace and Jason Potter the other for the home side.

Burnham Utd Res 1, Hutton 1

WITH a poor start to the day – three out of the back four dropping out in the morning due to illness – United Reserves found themselves 1-0 down early on against top-of-the-table Hutton, as Ross MacNab struck.

However, Burnham raised their game and could have scored when Russell Hicks beat a defender in the box and his shot hit the post.

Hutton were also threatening, and hit the crossbar just before half time.

The second half was played at a very high tempo and Burnham had the wind advantage, but the defence of Dec Christie and Steve Worthington had to stay strong and put their bodies on the line.

The midfield three were working hard to try and salvage something from the game and Jack Shepard began to run the midfield with the battling support of Hicks and Jesse McQuaid.

Burnham finally got their reward with 15 minutes to go; a quick free-kick caught out Hutton and Dax Vincent’s early ball into the box was met by McQuaid with a close-range tap-in.

The reserves thought they should have had a penalty at the end when Vincent’s shot hit the arm of the defender on the line, but the referee did not see it.

Burnham Utd A 6, Milton FC 3

BURNHAM A moved into second place in the table with their fifth win of the season on Saturday.

In windy conditions, Burnham had the advantage in the first half but found themselves a goal down early on.

However, Burnham scored five goals before half-time – Harry Wedgewood-Potts with a hat-trick, Shaun Lismore with a strike from distance and another from Lloyd Dean.

Milton pulled a goal back before half time, but in the second half, Burnham were happy to see out the game and defended strongly.

Milton scored with 20 minutes to go, but man of the match Wedgewood-Potts sealed a well-deserved three points at the end.
