BILL Marlow hasn’t taken long to find his feet at Brean Golf Club, as he recorded his second consecutive Seniors Stableford win.

In September he won Division 2 but his handicap was reduced, and this time he lined up in the top division with the same result.

His 39 points put him two clear of Graham Collins, who beat Ron Edmondson to second on countback.

Ray Rushman was the top man in Division 2 with 38 points.

Like Marlow, he was two clear of the next best player, Tony Tissington, who prevailed in a back nine countback over John Hale.

Ron Edmondson won his second Seniors Eclectic event this season, as his nett 65 led the way in the final round of the series from two days earlier.

He went round the course in a one-over-par 70 which, when his handicap was deducted, gave him a three-stroke cushion.

Another single-figure handicap man, in the shape of Pete Douglas, took second on 68, edging out John Cranley on countback.

A new putter grip seemed to do the trick for Russell Shaw as he enjoyed an excellent day on the greens on his way to top spot in the opening round of the Winter League on Saturday.

Shaw scored 42 points and headed home Ron Edmondson by a single point.

Third place went to Chris Fairchild (40 points).

John Cranley was the winner in Sunday’s Winter League round as his lengthy run of good form continues at pace.

His 41-point haul saw him win by one from Nigel Hodges.

Hodges managed to lose two balls in one hole in different water hazards, but still scored a nett par at the 11th on his way to 40 points.

Richard Triscott returned 39 points and beat John Ham on countback.

Ladies captain Sue Wright was the winner of the October Stableford last Thursday, beating club champion Lyn Bird in second spot by a single point, with Lesley Millard third, another two points back.

The Ladies played the last friendly of the season at Woodspring and, despite being defeated by their hosts, thoroughly enjoyed their day and the weather.

THE Enmore Royals were in good form against the County Cricketers in their annual match.

The visitors included Craig Overton, en route to joining up with England for the Ashes tour to Australia.

Indeed, partnering captain Mike Burns, he was part of their only winning pair as they beat Mike Rossiter and Steve Darch.

Four other Somerset Hall of Famers were also in the team, namely Graham Rose, Keith Parsons, Peter Bowler and Andy Caddick.

After Rob Fear and Ben Filler’s draw in the opener, wins by Martyn Westbury and Steve James, Phil Taylor and Chris Marsh, Richard Sykes and Paul Martin, and Mike Cavill and Danny O’Loughlin gave the Royals a 4.5-1.5 win, and revenge for last year’s defeat.
