Timsbury Athletic 2, Burnham United 1

BURNHAM United faced a tricky game at Division 1 East side Timsbury Athletic on Saturday, with a place in the League Cup quarter-finals at stake.

The visitors started with plenty of possession but it was the home side who took the lead after 10 minutes, as Chris Midgley scored from close range.

Burnham went close to equalising through Harrison Kidner and Matt Scott, but they were punished for not clearing the ball as Timsbury striker Rhys Cook netted his 20th of the season to put the hosts 2-0 up at half time.

In the second half, both teams created chances, with United substitute Jamie Merrick unlucky not to make contact with a Scott cross to reduce the deficit.

With 15 minutes to go, Russell Holley got the away side back into the game with a great 20-yard strike.

But Burnham were reduced to nine men late on, as Holley and Ed Lamb were shown red cards.

They still pushed for the equaliser and came close with minutes remaining, but the keeper saved well.

Burnham United Reserves 1, Stockwood Green Reserves 1

THE opening exchanges saw Burnham United Reserves create a couple of chances through the impressive Warren Whitfield, who also hit the bar.

However, midway during the half, a weak backpass put keeper Ashley Harrison in trouble, and he gave away a penalty.

Harrison got a hand to the ball but couldn’t keep it out of the net.

The home side improved in the second half, and their pressure paid off, as man-of-the-match Finley Wilkinson lobbed the keeper to equalise.

The Reserves are on a four-game unbeaten run, with a trip to second-placed Radstock Town Reserves coming up this weekend.

Burnham United A 0, Uphill Castle A 1

BURNHAM narrowly lost this top-of-the-table clash in a closely-fought battle.

The first half had few opportunities before Burnham thought they had scored the opening goal through Lloyd Dean.

However, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

Stand-in keeper Steve Warren also made a great one-handed save to keep the scores level.

In the second half, the hosts were awarded a penalty, but Dean failed to hit the target from the spot.

Halfway through the second half, Uphill scored the only goal of the game, hitting Burnham on the counter-attack.

The A team tried hard to get back into the game but the Uphill keeper was up to any challenge.

It means Uphill lead the league by a point, but Burnham have a game in hand.
