West Clubs Women's League Sedgemoor 1

Winscombe 2, Burnham-on-Sea 1

Fortunately Burnham had already sealed their place in Sedgemoor Division 1 for next season prior to this re-arranged evening fixture and this showed in their performance.

They lacked their normal team cohesion and played like the result did not matter.

Burnham actually started quite brightly with some good passing and movement, forcing several penalty corners but failing to take any of them.

Caroline Hunt opened the scoring with a well-taken strike after a strong run into the D and she went on to have a storming game.

Sian Kelly then made two terrific saves and Ali Evely cleared off the line before Winscombe nicked an equaliser after the Blues defence failed to deal with a bouncing cross.

Charlotte Rogers and Jem Johnson worked hard trying to create openings for the team and Rogers in particular had the beating of her marker every time.

Unfortunately this meant Winscombe doubled up on her in the second half and Burnham could not exploit the space elsewhere.

Hunt was winning everything and trying to drive her team forward but Burnham just did not get any luck with decisions in the D.

Johnson went close before Hunt had a shot deflected over the bar as both teams went for the win, but Winscombe were more up for it than Burnham.

They got their reward late on in the second half as Burnham ran out of steam and ideas and conceded the winner.

Burnham's last match of the season is at home to ECVH at King Alfred School on Saturday (10am).
