THE final of Burnham & Berrow's Club Championship was a contest between Tom Burley, winner of the English Mid-Amateur Trophy in July, and Justin Lane.

The 36 Hole final was the culmination of knock-out rounds during the year and the match started in wet and gloomy conditions. Justin took an early lead when Tom lost his ball on the third hole, and although Tom did come back, Justin finished the first 18 holes, two up. Throughout the match, Tom struggled to find his game, although he played some magnificent shots, whilst Justin kept ahead with some solid play.

On the 24th hole, Justin's ball pitched straight into the pocket of a member's golf bag when being let through, however with a free drop he was able to keep his cool and gradually increase his lead to five up with five to play.

Unfortunately, Tom lost his ball on the 14th, giving Justin a well deserved 6&4 win. This is the second time Justin has won the Club Championship.
