BURNHAM showed tremendous character and team spirit in this thriller of a match they thoroughly deserved to win.
Having gone a goal down in the first minute from a ferocious penalty corner, the Blues came back strongly to quickly equalise and then take the lead three times.
After excellent work down the right from Louise Peace and Alannah Frost, Kerry Harvey nipped in to get the final touch to keep her 100 per cent scoring record going.
Chelsea Fisher was outstanding as she showed what a versatile and valuable young player to the team she is – working hard supporting both defence and attack and making the block of the match from a powerful penalty corner.
With Frost and Beth Ingram running the show, Burnham began to boss the midfield and put the visitors under extreme pressure at the back. It was only a matter of time until they took the lead and it was Tracey Dunn showing the way with a terrific solo run and shot that left the goalkeeper rooted.
Unfortunately, another penalty corner saw White Eagles back on level terms and captain Carly Bush, in goal, had to make several top class saves, including a one-handed dive with her outstretched stick, to keep her team on level terms.
As the interval approached, Ingram capped a fine performance with a perfectly-placed shot from Frost’s cross after more good work down the Blues’ right.
Burnham kept the lead for most of the second half but a lapse in concentration left Bush one-on-one with their goal hanger and the match looked like it would end in a draw.
But Burnham had the final say and Frost’s strike from another penalty corner saw June England pop up on the far post to sweep in her first of the season to finally win the match for her team and send them and their supporters ecstatic.
Player of the match: Chelsea Fisher.
l Burnham entertain bottom club ECVH on Saturday at 10am.
