Burnham II 12, Wiveliscombe 34

BURNHAM'S run of three successive wins was brought to an abrupt stop this week as they fell to a 12-34 defeat to Wiveliscombe.

The game started in a dream like manner for Burnham Tom Stevens charged down the scrum halves kick and in the ensuing pursuit of turnovers and very good cohesive forward work Mike Whitfield opened the scoring.

Wivvy were sparked into action and mounted a number of very good attacks to be rewarded with a try of their own, converted, to take a 5-7 lead.

Burnham had the final say of the half thanks to Matt Slater who fed Matt Love to sprint 30 metres under the posts, a try converted by Alex Bowkett to give Burnham a 12-7 half-time lead.

The second half saw Burnham lose their way with a number of mistakes creeping into the play and Wivvy made no mistake in scoring two tries in quick succession and then a further two tries to add salt to Burnham's wounds to end up 12-34 winners.

The team look ahead to Saturday's fixture at home to Ivel Barbarians. Kick-off is 3pm.
