Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur will go head to head in tonight's final of the X Factor after Christopher Maloney's dream ended as he was voted out of the competition.
Judge Tulisa Contostavlos punched the air in delight as Arthur sailed through to the final night.
The success of the two members of the boys category means this evening's final will be between judge Nicole Scherzinger's final mentees.
The former Pussycat Doll dazzled in a floor-length red sequinned gown as she stood next to her two remaining mentees to wait for presenter Dermot O'Leary's announcement of who had made the final.
She hugged Douglas, 20, closely after his name was announced before she gripped Arthur's hand in a show of support before he was also announced.
This season's rejects opened the show performing a medley of their most popular songs, including Rylan Clark's cover of viral hit Gangnam Style and Ella Henderson singing Florence + the Machine's Spectrum.
Performing in Manchester Central arena, the finalists sang a new song and dueted with their mentor to fight for a place in the final.
Douglas sang Curtis Mayfield's Move On Up, Arthur performed Nina Simone's Feeling Good and Maloney opted for Irene Cara's Flashdance ... What a Feeling.
Liverpudlian Maloney teamed up with mentor Barlow to perform Take That's Rule The World, and Scherzinger collaborated with Arthur, 24, to sing Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love.
Afterwards Arthur told Scherzinger: "You're the best mentor I ever could ask for."
