Michelle Dockery has revealed how Downton Abbey has opened up more screen opportunities for her.

The British actress admitted that, without playing Lady Mary Crawley in ITV's award-winning period drama, she may not have been offered the chance to star alongside the likes of Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Lupita Nyong'o in action movie Non-Stop.

"It's been amazing, and like all the cast, we really weren't expecting this. It's brought about such opportunity for us all," she said.

The 32-year-old continued: "Moving into something like Non-Stop has been a wonderful experience for me and I'm not sure that would have happened without the show so I owe a lot to the show.

"I love doing it, I love everything that goes around it like the amount of travelling that I've been doing. It's really been an incredible journey."

Michelle, who plays air hostess Nancy in Jaume Collet-Serra's action thriller, relished a role that couldn't be more different to Downton's Lady Mary.

"I read the script and loved it, and loved the role, and it was just a bonus really that it was an action thriller and something very different to what I have been doing. The opportunity to work with Liam and Julianne was just incredible," she added.

The actress admitted she didn't feel claustrophobic with the set, saying: "We were working in such tight spaces so it was quite challenging at times, but more so for the crew really. For us, it only fuelled our performances."
