Serkis 'mesmerised' by Jungle Book
Andy Serkis has said it is "extraordinary" that he is getting to direct the upcoming Jungle Book film
The Lord Of The Rings actor will make his feature directorial debut on the live-action movie about Mowgli, an orphaned boy raised by animals in the jungle.
He told The Hollywood Reporter he was a big fan of Rudyard Kipling's story when he was a child.
"I found it mesmerizing, and it transported me into this incredible world," he said. "It's extraordinary that I'm getting a chance to bring it to the screen."
There are currently two big screen versions of The Jungle Book in the pipeline, with Andy directing Warner Bros' project. The other film is being made by Disney and has Jon Favreau directing.
Andy said his version is very true to the original story and "doesn't shy away from its darkness".
"The jungle is a Garden of Eden and a wonderful place for Mowgli to grow up in, but also is a place of fear and a place of threat," he said.
