Will Poulter has led a line-up of talented young British actors to London's Leicester Square for the premiere of Plastic.

We're The Millers actor Will, 21, stars in the film about a group of 20-something friends who set up a credit card fraud racket but incur the wrath of a gangster when they steal from the wrong man - based on a true story.

He said: "All of these characters are representations of how young people are in this current climate.

"University perhaps doesn't guarantee you a job and so they're driven to these criminal ventures.

"We're not endorsing it but we are shining a light on it."

He added that shooting in Miami had brought him closer to his castmates, who included Downton Abbey's Ed Speleers, former Hollyoaks star Emma Rigby, Alfie Allen and Sebastian De Souza.

Will said: "We were so close throughout this film. When you're filming abroad rather than going home at the end of the day you're staying in the same hotel and eating together so that was lovely.

"I love this group, I stay in touch with all of them."

Emma, 24, also at the premiere, added she hadn't minded being the only female in the group: "It was such a gift, I became so close to all the boys, especially Will Poulter and Sebastian De Souza.

"That's the great thing about this job you get to work with so many different people and form these amazing friendships."

Will was awarded Bafta's Rising Star gong earlier this year, but said he was taking the recognition in his stride.

He explained: "I think it has made a few more things available to me. I'm still working as hard as ever.

"I don't rest on anything and I don't take anything for granted, you have to fight for every inch in this game."

Plastic director Julian Gilbey confirmed the star's modesty, saying of his recent turn opposite Jennifer Aniston: "When he was saying on set, 'I've done this film We're The Millers,' we were like 'Is it an arthouse film?' and he was like, 'Well... It's Warner Bros...'

"But no one thought about it, not realising it was this hundred-million-dollar blockbuster."

Speleers and De Souza were also on the red carpet for the film's launch.

Plastic is released in cinemas on April 30.
