Nicole Scherzinger has taken a pop at Simon Cowell for leaving her off The X Factor panel - by saying the show was at its best with her on it.

The Pussy Cat doll has left the ITV talent show, along with Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne, and this year will see Mel B join returning judges Simon, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.

Nicole told Alan Carr on his Chatty Man show: "No, I haven't heard from Simon. He made his choice so I'm just going to support everybody and it doesn't matter as my panel last year was the absolute best.

"No one can replace Gazza and Mrs O and Louis for me. But you know what, the show's going to be crazy this year. I know it's going to be a banger as you guys say over here."

And the singer insisted she did not need to offer any tips to Spice Girl Mel, who has been a guest judge on the show before and appeared on the Australian version.

Nicole said: "Mel is like, she's done this before, She doesn't need any advice, she's gonna spice things up."

Meanwhile, Emma Bunton has said Scary Spice Mel was the best Spice Girl Simon could have chosen.

Emma told the Daily Mirror: "I knew for a while that she had it, so I'm glad it's out. She's perfect for it and I'm glad she's going to be home for a while.

"We'll be able to catch up more often. She's really honest, but fair and fun and vibrant.

"I think she's the perfect Spice Girl for the job."

Alan Carr's Chatty Man airs on Channel 4 at 10pm on Fridays.
