Samberg perplexes Hollywood stars

Andy Samberg's decision to star in a BBC Three sitcom has shocked his Hollywood friends.

The Saturday Night Live graduate, 34, whose latest film, That's My Boy, has just opened in cinemas, joins Helen Baxendale, Greg Davies and Tyger Drew-Honey in the show Cuckoo.

He admitted that his decision to cross the pond, when his star is rising so high in Hollywood, had left some of his mates perplexed.

"We were out the other night and bumped into Jude Law, and he was like, 'What ARE you doing in England? Why are you doing this?' I was like, 'I just thought it was funny'," the US star said.

"I always make my decisions based on whether or not I think something's good."

Explaining his decision to star in the show, Andy, who has just come to the end of a seven-year stint on Saturday Night Live, said: "Basically, they asked me. I get offers to do stuff fairly consistently, but I really like the script and figured 'Why not'?"

Andy, who stars with Adam Sandler in the film That's My Boy and is set to work with him again on the animation Hotel Transylvania, plays Cuckoo, a travelling hippie from America who bumps into English rose Rachel on her gap year in Thailand in the BBC Three sitcom.

They marry on a whim and she brings him home to live with her family in the Midlands.

"It made me laugh when I read the script because it was pretty spot-on," he said.

Cuckoo starts on BBC Three on Tuesday, September 25. That's My Boy is out in cinemas now, while Hotel Transylvania is out on October 12.
