THE Princess Theatre and Arts Centre in Burnham-on-Sea has issued a statement about its approach to the Plan B rules outlined by the Government yesterday evening.

Face coverings are now legally required at the venue, but the theatre has confirmed its audiences will not require Covid passports under the new regulations.

The theatre has asked users and customers to wear masks since it reopened in June

Boris Johnson confirmed the move to Plan B yesterday (Wednesday, December 8) to limit the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

From tomorrow, face coverings will be required in more public settings, including theatres and cinemas.

From Monday, people will be asked to work from home where possible and, from Wednesday, NHS Covid passports will be required to enter large venues.

A Covid passport or a negative lateral flow test will be required to enter nightclubs, unseated indoor venues with more than 500 people, unseated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people, and all events with more than 10,000 people.

The Princess Theatre has confirmed it "does not fall into the category requiring audiences to carry a Covid passport at this time".

Should that change, the theatre has "plans in place to administrate this".

The refurbished theatre has tiered seating for 200 people in its main auditorium.

A spokesperson for the theatre said: "Since reopening, The Princess has continued to ask all audiences, users and customers to wear masks throughout the venue.

"Audiences, participants and performers have been grateful of this and happy to do so.

"The Princess does not fall into the category requiring audiences to carry a Covid passport at this time.

"Should this become mandatory, we have plans in place to administrate this."

The spokesperson added: "Back in June, we introduced new safety procedures including fogging between performances, heightened cleaning, digital signage and for those attending ticketed events, e-tickets with scanned entry.

"This has worked successfully and we will continue to work like this.

"We have also worked under the UK Theatre See it Safely rules introducing Covid safety procedures backstage, across staff and performers.

"As such, for The Princess and those attending events, the only change is now the legal requirement to wear a mask.

"We would like to thank our customers and audiences for returning to The Princess and following our safety procedures, it has made our return to business a joy."
