Maisie Williams has backed Idris Elba to be the next Doctor – but if he’s not available, she would be quite happy to step in and do it herself.
With rumours swirling that Time Lord actor Peter Capaldi could step down, everyone is wondering who the next Doctor could be.
And rising star Maisie, who has already had a guest part in the BBC series, has thrown her hat into the ring.
She told the Evening Standard: “I think a black doctor would be incredible. I’m all for Idris Elba – but if not I’ll take it for the team and do it!”
However, the Game Of Thrones actress is a little busy right now.
She said: “Yes it would be cool but right now I’m locked into some other things.
“I think a female doctor would be incredible.”
Maisie has already appeared in a number of Doctor Who episodes as immortal Viking girl Ashildr.
But hopefully the talented Doctor Who scriptwriters could work out a clever plot to have Maisie back as the Doctor him/herself?
