IF YOU dig the past then get set for a Somerset-wide festival of archaeology.

The South West Heritage Trust is holding three events co-ordinated by the Council for British Archaeology. An archaeology pop up day take places on Wednesday, July 27 at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. The session will explore the recently concluded archaeological excavations at Hinkley Point and Cannington.

South West Heritage Trust archaeologist Bob Croft said: “We have been part of some fascinating archaeological discoveries on the Avalon Marshes and at Hinkley Point and the festival is a great opportunity to share these stories with local people.”

On Thursday, July 28 the museum hosts an archaeology object handling session with a chance to touch real objects while the crafts of ancient Avalon takes place on Saturday, July 30 at the Avalon Marshes Centre on Shapwick Road.
