AN application to extend the opening hours at the Morlands Social Club in Highbridge for a 65th birthday party has been rejected.
Sedgemoor District Council’s licensing panel met last Friday to discuss police objections to the club’s bid to stay open until 3.30am on February 24 for member Dave Hicks’ party – the normal closing time is 1.30am.
Police said the later opening hours could cause a nuisance to neighbours and an increased risk of crime and disorder.
The club disagreed but the panel found in favour of the police.
