A WEDMORE teenager has been praised for her charity work and helping homeless people in Taunton.

Georgia House filled well over 20 rucksacks for Taunton Association for the Homeless, spending two months scouring charity shops for ten essential items for each rucksack.

“The idea was to go to a charity shop, get a rucksack, sleeping bag, flask, spoon, gloves, hat, fleece, underwear, socks and extra food,” explained Georgia.

She added: “I realised this was still expensive so I got my friends involved, searched eBay for bargains, and called upon the generosity of families donating items.”

The King’s College student’s efforts have been supported by global digital company Warbler which chose to support the homeless cause as its Christmas charity having been impressed by her work.

Richard Counsell, chief executive of Warbler, said: “We considered a number of charities for our Christmas charitable donation but in the end it was the enthusiasm of the local teenager that caught our attention.

“Sometimes we can get engrossed in our own needs and social life around this time of year and it was refreshing to meet a teenager with a strong desire to help others in need through the cold winter months.”
