HIGHBRIDGE’S Frank Foley Statue is to be part of a nationwide event to mark 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz later this month.
The Frank Foley statue in Market Street will host a candle designed by Sir Anish Kapoor as part of a nationwide event that will see 70 candles lit at Holocaust memorial events all over the UK.
Joyce Curtis, Chairperson of the former Frank Foley Committee, will light the candle during a short remembrance service to be conducted around the statue by the Rev Sharon Crossman of St John’s Church.
The service will be held at midday to start a period of reflection the survivors and those who were killed in the Holocaust and other genocides.
The Highbridge War Memorial Trust has marked Holocaust Memorial Day each year since 2006 and was chosen from hundreds of applications by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust to be given a candle to light on the day.
