WESTON College has been named as the top Further Education establishment in the country.

The college won both College of the Year and Overall FE Provider of the Year at the TES FE Awards in London.

Principal and chief executive Dr Paul Phillips said: “It is fantastic for the work that has been carried out at Weston College to be recognised on a national level. It was very pleasing that the judges recognised our aim of providing further education for as many members of the community as possible.

“This marks a fantastic achievement in moving from a College in poor financial health providing poor quality education in 2001 to one that is now rated as outstanding by OFSTED and where we have a diversity of education provision from high standard technical courses to masters degrees.”

The panel of judges praised Weston’s focus on staff development, including a pioneering lesson observation pilot, Open Door Days, aimed at enabling teachers to share good practice.

The college has also cultivated strong links with employers and external partners.
