The Christmas season means a lot of things to different people, but as the Town Centre Manager in Burnham-on-Sea I am very aware that it is the major opportunity for many of the businesses I support to market their products and services.

To entice you into the town, the Council has planned entertainment every weekend in the countdown to the Big Day – starting on 21 November. We call it a ‘Frostival’ as it brings a spark to the chilliest months of the year.

It all kicks off on Saturday, November 21, in the streets around the Victoria Quarter. The Chamber of Trade & Commerce will coordinate a day-long event with stilt walkers, market, a visit from Santa, a talent contest, live reindeers, some Lost Elves and of course – the switch-on of the lights at around 4.45pm by Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis.

All through the Frostival there is a huge range of acts performing every weekend including juggling acrobatic Elves, stilt walkers, Jack Frost, giant Christmas crackers, the Santa Express, local bands, choirs, choral societies and children’s entertainment from Mr Fox. These are all strolling acts, so they will be popping up all around the town centre on Saturdays and Sundays.

A real highlight for the young and old alike will be your chance to meet Nanuq, the charming, life-size animatronic polar bear and his Arctic conservationist handler. They are at the Ritz Social Club on Saturday 5 December at 11.30am, 1pm and 2pm. We have partnered with BARB to ensure that Santa is also delivered safety to the club too! (Like all the events that are a part of the Council’s Frostival celebrations, this is free to attend).

Plenty more Christmas fairs, concerts, screenings and special activities, like the skating rink, are presented in the Burnham on Sea Frostival leaflet, distributed free to households, businesses and schools in the area and available in the town centre.

Pick up a leaflet in town, look out for it arriving through your door.

I look forward to welcoming you to the town centre this Christmas - try your local town centre first; you might be pleasantly surprised!
