THE long-serving chairman of the Friends of Burnham Hospital has stepped down after 20 years of service.

Tony Deahl had served on the committee for 30 years but decided he had served his time and has stepped down.

During his time he he overseen many changes at the hospital including the purchase of the Peter Holmes Annexe, the new conservatory, a complete refurbishment of the hospital and the courtyard garden.

In recognition of his long and devoted service, the committee had a whip-round and purchased a small gift in recognition.

The Friends of Burnham Hospital organised a special event to present Tony with his gift and celebrate his achievement.

The Friends also invited Tony's wife Wendy and thanked her for the time she spent running the tea tent at fetes for the past ten years, as well as putting up with Tony disappearing to sort out various requests.

New chairman Bernard Spilsbury said: "We wish them both well for the future, safe in the knowledge that we can tap them up for help in the future!"
