THE competition was fierce at Brean Rally last weekend as cars took on the challenging track in the pursuit of victory.

Crowds gathered to watch Arron Newbay and Ian Davies triumph in the competition on January 28 and 29 and saw them secure the sought-after win following a thrilling race.

Organiser Rod Mckenna said weather conditions had not been ideal at the rally: “It was an event of two halves.

“Dryish and calm on Saturday with heavy rain on the Sunday with several drivers losing points by spinning out on the corners and losing points.”

Scores of people remained undeterred by the poor weather conditions and cheered at the sidelines for the drivers who were all focused on success.

It was winning driver, Arron Newbay’s fourth appearance at the rally and the victory was all the more sweet as the 18-year-old driver won after losing out a few years before when his turbo blew up and he was forced to leave the competition.

Last year’s winner, Steve Furland had a fantastic race and finished third this year by a narrow margin while Josh Payton and co-driver Mark Mizen from Tavern with their race-tuned Ford Escort came eleventh overall.
