SEVEN arrests have been made in the last few weeks following a spate of burglaries in Burnham-on-Sea. 

Avon and Somerset Police have been called multiple times in the last two months to residential properties and businesses including Boots, GW Hurley's and The Children's Society after they were targeted by thieves. 

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police, said: "There has been a spate of burglaries in the Burnham-on-Sea area which has resulted in seven arrests for theft/burglary related crimes. 

"Property taken during the incidents has been recovered.

"We have also increased our presence in the area around-the-clock.

"However we would remind people to take adequate precautions to protect their property, including the provision of CCTV.

"Additionally we would encourage members of the public to be our 'eyes and ears' and report any suspicious actions to that appropriate action can be taken.

"Keeping local communities safe, supporting vulnerable victims and reducing crime remain the highest priorities for us."

A Boots chemist store on High Street in the town was targeted by intruders three times in the space of 14 days and high quantity of perfume and other goods were stolen. 

GW Hurley's Newsagents on High Street has been the latest target for burglars. 

The store's windows were smashed and a large quantity of stock was stolen in the early hours of April 19. 

It is believed some residential properties have also been targeted by burglars. 

Police have issued security advice to residents after the spate of burglaries. 

The spokesman added: "In terms of house security we would advise that home-owners take precautions to protect their properties. 

"Don't leave doors and windows open in your home, especially if you are leaving your home unattended."
