TWO people have been rescued after getting stuck in 'thigh deep' mud in Brean.

Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard were called at 9.55am to Brean Beach after reports of two people shouting for help.

A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard said: "When we arrived on scene the Brean beach warden was near their location and was able to help us pin point where they were.

"Two of our mud techs kitted up in full rescue gear and as they did so BARB Hovercraft arrived on scene.

"We loaded our rescue equipment onto their craft and they flew us out to the casualties where we discovered them to be very deep in mud.

"One was thigh deep and the other just above the knees.

"We quickly set about digging them out and transferring them onto the hovercraft who ferried them back to our flank team Weston Coastguard.

"The hovercraft then retrieved our two mud techs who were still out in the mud due to weight and room limits within the craft.

"The rescue was fast and fluid with both teams working together.

"We are always grateful for the assistance of the hovercraft who get our rescue technicians to the casualties quickly so we can rescue people before anything worse can happen to them."
