A BURNHAM-on-Sea hypnotherapist said she feels 'delighted' after scooping up a national award.

Elise De Viell, who has been practising hypnotherapy for six years in clinics in Burnham, Bridgwater and Taunton, was voted 'Best Clinical Hypnotherapist' by Global Health and Pharma (GHP) at the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Awards.

The 42-year-old said she is happy hypnotherapy is becoming increasingly recognised among medical professionals.

She said: "With the increased use of electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic brain imaging devices we can actually see what is actually happening in the brain during trance and more meditative states.

"It is fascinating stuff. The more research that is conducted in the area the better."

Elise said she submits her anonymous client outcome data to help gather a body of evidence in a bid to make hypnotherapy a more mainstream therapy that everyone can use.

"The more research we do in this area, the more accessible it will be for the wider community," Elise said.
