A POPULAR coffee shop will be closed for six days for its first refurbishment in five years.

Costa, in Burnham-on-Sea High Street, will be closed from October 14 to October 20 while builders carry out works to transform the inside of the building.

Part of the store’s existing bar will be removed and a new colour scheme, furniture and artwork will be installed to give the eatery a new look.

Gavin King, operations manager for Costa in Burnham-on-Sea said: “We are really excited about this refurbishment as it will be the first time we have changed the shop since we opened in April 2013.

“There are going to be a lot of changes which we hope will really benefit customers.

“The whole project is going to really brighten up the store and make it a really nice place for our customers.

“We are also going to be replacing the sign on the front of the store as Costa is going back to the old ‘Costa Coffee’ brand.

“It’s going to be a big change for the store.

“We are planning to do it in six days so there is a lot of work to be done but I know we will make it happen and make the store better for our customers. ”

Gavin said the store, which is franchised by South West Coffee, has been going from strength to strength and praised staff for their hard work.

“We really want this store to be at the heart of the community as it is right on Burnham’s High Street,” Gavin said.

“In the last year we have seen more and more people coming through the door and we realised the decor is looking a bit tired.

“We want this to be a place that residents can come to sit and relax and enjoy time with their friends, somewhere comfortable.

“The team of staff we have at this store are fantastic, they work really hard and we want to make this a nicer environment for them.”

To celebrate the refurbishment the store will be holding a re-launch event on October 20 and staff will be handing out discount vouchers and cake samples for visitors to try.

The store will also be launching its new winter food and drinks menu and the end of October.

The menu features a number of festive favourites as well as some new additions from previous years.

“This is the first refurbishment I have seen through from beginning to end so it is particularly special for me and for the staff,” Gavin added.

“We are really looking forward to seeing everyone at the launch on October 20 to get their views on the store.”
