A GROUP of girl guides enjoyed a sleepover in Burnham-on-Sea Library as part of a unique challenge.

On Saturday (September 29) 28 Brent Knoll Guides snuggled up in their sleeping bags and took part in a regional challenge from Girlguiding South West called ‘Night at the Library. ‘

The event was designed to encourage young girls to share the love of books and reading and help them discover the joys of their local library.

The guides were welcomed by library staff Lyn and Karen and ate fish and chips from the Battered Fryer on the library steps before setting up their sleeping bags inside.

Jane Sinott from Brent Knoll Guides said the event was a big success.

“It was a lovely evening and the sight of so many girls outside the library was a bit of a surprise to many people driving and walking by,” Jane said.

“Little did they know this was just the start of our adventure.

“We had a tour of the library, played a game where the girls changed traditional tales for their own versions, it was very entertaining.

“We had campfire songs and the girls finally settled into their sleeping bags among the shelves of books.

“Many of the girls took a book from one of the shelves and had a little bedtime read.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls, their first library sleepover in Somerset.

“I would like to say a massive thank you to Nathan, Lyn and Karen at Burnham library who made it possible.”
