IT was a good night for two Somerset businesses who won a haul of awards at Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.

The awards were held at the Apex Hotel in Bath on November 14 where 86 hand-crafted trophies were presented to businesses and holiday parks across the region by Laura Rawlings from BBC Radio Bristol and former Bath Rugby player Phil de Glanville.

Described by the judges as "a fantastic buzzy atmosphere, fun and engaging for all”eat:Festivals, which is based in Burnham-on-Sea, won a gold award for the Responsible, Ethical and Sustainable Tourism Award, gold for the Tourism event/Festival of the Year and the Winner of Winners Award.

Speaking after the big event, Sarah Milner-Simonds, co-organiser of eat:Festivals, said: "We haven't come down yet.

"We were not expecting to achieve Gold this year.

"We made big changes with our sustainability in 2018 and we were hoping, that by entering, to get some good feedback on where we can improve.

"To win twice and then to realise that we had been selected as Winners of Winners is so shocking.

"Thank you to all those who make the festivals possible. Our sponsors, backers, crew, producers, partners and the thousands who visit."

Holiday Resort Unity also had success and picked up the gold award for Dog Friendly Business of the Year for their dog cafe, COAST and won the silver award for holiday park of the year for the second year running.

Described by the judges as “fun and friendly”COAST has a bespoke menu for dogs which includes a three-course meal option, and beer and prosecco brewed just for dogs, as well as, hot and cold food and drinks for dog-owners.

Speaking after the event, Alan House, director of Holiday Resort Unity, said: "We are delighted with the gold award for COAST. It was created as a result of both feedback from our customers, and also to benefit our local community.

"With so many dog walkers using the beach and now the new stretch of the England Coast Path increasing footfall to the area, it’s great for dog owners to have somewhere to go whatever the weather where their dogs are welcome too.

"It’s fantastic to be recognised not just for the service and facilities we provide in COAST, but because we listened, we created and we achieved."
