SCORES of people wrapped up warm and filled Burnham-on-Sea's streets to watch the town's Christmas lights switch on.

Residents cheered on Victoria Street on November 24 as the Christmas lights were switched on by TV personality Martin Roberts and Burnham-on-Sea author Damien Boyd. alongside Burnham Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock, Mayoress Frances Hancock, town crier Alistair Murray and Highbridge and Burnham carnival queen Niah Vall.

Before the switch-on, visitors enjoyed a day of festive entertainment including festive stalls and performances a number of local bands including Burnham and Highbridge Town band, Lisa Jane School of Dance and Brent Knoll School Choir.

A spokesman for Burnham Chamber of Trade, said: “We thank everyone who helped to make the 2018 lights switch-on such a success.

“We were delighted that such a great number of spectators supported the event, getting Burnham’s celebrations get off to a fantastic start.

“We urge local shoppers to support Burnham’s town centre shops in the run-up to Christmas this year.”
