THE weather accounted for much of the women’s football schedule, with Bishops Lydeard Ladies’ game at Marine Academy Plymouth postponed.

Lydeard have dropped to fifth in the Premier Division of the South West Women’s League, as Callington Town won 3-2 at leaders Keynsham Town Development.

This coming Sunday, Lydeard host near-neighbours Middlezoy Rovers (ko 2pm).

Only a few matches survived in the Somerset County Women’s League, but Bishops Lydeard Reserves were able to beat visiting Burnham United 5-2.

Jodie Dingle, Andrea Selene, Imogen Miller and Sophie Lewis (2) got their goals, with Vanessa Brill and Daisy Goldsmith replying.

In Division 2, Porlock won 4-1 at Crewkerne Rangers, with Georgia Perkins, Briony Smith (2) and Christina Storey on target.

FA Women’s Super League
Bristol City Women 2, Yeovil Town Ladies 1

ONCE again Yeovil Town Ladies came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline, despite taking the lead away to in-form Bristol City Women on Sunday.

Annie Heatherson headed the visitors in front, but their derby rivals came back to win with goals from Lucy Graham and Rosella Ayane.

In what was a close contest at Stoke Gifford Stadium, the hosts applied much of the first-half pressure.

Yet the away side had the best chance of the opening 45, Heatherson breaking clear but shooting too high.

She made no mistake when presented with another opportunity just after the half-time interval, meeting Megan Alexander’s pinpoint cross to put her side ahead.

But then Loren Dyke’s cross was adjudged to have been handled by Emily Donovan, and Graham levelled it up from the penalty spot on 56 minutes.

What proved to be the winner came in unfortunate circumstances in the 72nd minute, as Ayane’s shot took a significant deflection off Bonnie Horwood to beat goalkeeper Megan Walsh.

The visitors went to three at the back and introduced ex-Bishops Lydeard midfielder Emily Syme – back from injury – in the 80th minute.

But Bristol held out for the three points, keeping them fifth in the table and leaving Yeovil bottom, two points off 10th-placed Everton.

Yeovil Town Ladies: Megan Walsh, Ellie Mason, Hannah Short, Emily Donovan (Nicola Cousins 87), Megan Alexander, Charlotte Buxton (Emily Syme 80), Georgia Evans, Bonnie Horwood, Rachel McLauchlan, Erin Bloomfield (Olivia Fergusson 60), Annie Heatherson.

This Sunday, Yeovil host Birmingham City in the FA Cup fourth round; kick-off is at 3pm at Dorchester Town, and fans can buy half-price tickets until Friday via the club website.
