RESIDENTS in Burnham-on-Sea were left concerned after a large piece of debris fell off the side of a building narrowly missing a car.

The large piece of black debris fell off the side of the former Skye Bar building in High Street this morning (February 7) and into the path of pedestrians.

Linda Britton, a resident who lives in Burnham, said she saw the debris on the pavement as she was heading into town to go shopping and said she is concerned about the state of the building.

She said: "As I walking down the High Street I saw a large piece of debris inches away from a car next to the Skye Bar.

"A few people were around looking concerned and a traffic warden was there and he took note of it.

"We all looked up and saw that it was part of the building had crumbled and fallen down."

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said building control inspectors went to the site to assess it but there was no evidence of debris along the High Street.

The spokesman said: "We can confirm we had reports that some debris had fallen off Skye Bar in Burnham but when one of our building control inspectors went out to Burnham to assess it, there was no evidence of any debris along the High Street

"So we assume the owner of the building must have cleared it away."
