A CAR wheel and a wooden chair were among the items collected by volunteers during a beach clean on Burnham-on-Sea beach.

Fifty five volunteers, including students from the King Alfred School, braved the cold weather to collect waste washed up on the beach on Saturday (February 16) and collected 60 sacks of rubbish.

Mark Hollidge from the Friends of Burnham Beach, said the event was a big success.

He said: “The area we worked on looks in good condition right now and although most of the waste is washed up by the sea, we would appreciate it if walkers would not add to the problem by dropping litter and allowing their dogs to foul.”
