POLICE are urging residents to be vigilant after a large number of gardening tools were stolen from the Weston-super-Mare area.

Avon and Somerset Police say the tools were taken from a garden machinery shop in Winterstoke Road on Wednesday (February 20) between 10pm and 10.30pm.

More than 25 Stihl or Husqvarna branded items were taken during the incident including chain saws, leaf blowers and a hedge strimmer.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We’re urging people to be vigilant – particularly second-hand shop owners and organisers of local car boot sales this weekend - and contact us if they are offered any of the following items.

We are also appealing to local tree surgeon companies who may be offered the items listed below:

Stihl chain saws (model reference number and blade length included) - MS150T with 10inch blade, MS201T 12ins, MS170 12 ins, MS180 12 ins, MS181 C-BE, MS251 16ins, MS261 C-M 16ins, MS362 C-M 16ins, MS462 C-M 20ins, MS661 C-M 36ins; Stihl leaf blowers -BG86C, BG56C, SH86C; and a Stihl hedge strimmer HS45 with 24 inch blade.

Also taken were Husqvarna chain saws with various blade lengths – 435 15 ins, 450 18ins, 455 18ins, 562XP 18ins, 572XP 20ins, 365 20ins, 390XP 24ins (no longer available), 395XP 28ins (no longer available), T540XP 12ins, T525 10ins, T536LIXP 12ins and 536LIHD75X 14ins.

"Chain saws and disc cutters, which had been repaired and tested, were also taken from the shop.
