A MUM has spoken of how she voiced concerns over the state of Brean Pontins TWO YEARS before an incident this week which left 18 people injured.

Julie Gay says she told staff at Brean Pontins about issues with the ceiling in the clubhouse during a holiday with her husband and their two children in 2017.

On Wednesday evening, 18 people were injured, with six taken to hospital, after the an air conditioning and heating duct collapsed in the clubhouse at the holiday park as families played bingo and children were watching a show.

Now, 37-year-old Julie, from Gloucestershire, has spoken out over her shock when she saw parts of the ceiling 'hanging off' in the clubhouse during the trip.

“I told them about the disrepair of the ceilings two years ago,” she said. "It (Brean Pontins) was in a bit of a state when we went there … it was dirty, there was mess everywhere.

“During our holiday we walked into the park's main clubhouse and saw parts of the ceiling hanging off.

"I was shocked so I decided to take a picture and put up a review on Google reviews as I wanted to make other people aware of what was going on.

"And I went and told the staff about a list of flaws with the resort.

"I mentioned the state of the floors, the disrepair of everything including ceilings, the lack of lighting on footpaths and that we bought a camping air mattress to put over the sofa bed as it caused me so much pain to lie down on.

"I was not surprised when I saw that part of the ceiling collapsed at Brean Pontins.

“It was an accident waiting to happen."

Julie said she thinks 'drastic changes' need to be made at the park before it reopens and said she is pleased Sedgemoor District Council has launched an investigation into the incident.

She said: "I think the place should be bought out by a better company.

"It is clear that it needs some new management. "

The Weekly News has contacted Pontins for comment.
