‘SEVERAL’ students have been excluded from a Highbridge school after they were caught on CCTV trespassing on the school site.

Police were called to The King Alfred School, an Academy on Wednesday (February 20) after a group of youths triggered an alarm on the school’s security system.

The school says it launched an investigation into the incident after CCTV footage showed the youths climbing on top of the school roofs and trespassing on the school grounds.

Less than a week after the event, the school’s principal, Nathan Jenkins, revealed that on Monday (February 25) he had excluded ‘several’ students for a fixed period of time following the incident and said ‘dangerous and unhelpful’ behaviour on the school grounds will not be tolerated.

He said: “There is a substantial amount of good news coming out of our school and we will not tolerate this very very small minority of students who are acting in an anti-social manner.

“Our new improved security systems at TKASA including CCTV did its job.

“We have excluded several students for a fixed period of time and police are also dealing with older youths.

“Whilst we are disappointed to have to do this it needs to be stressed that this behaviour on school roofs and at our site is dangerous and unhelpful and showed real disrespect to our community.

“We are thankful for parental support in this matter.

“Please let us all respect our local community.

“The new roofs are on schedule and will be completed in the next month.”

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said the incident is being treated as ‘anti-social behaviour.’

The spokesman said: “We were called to The King Alfred School at around 9pm on Wednesday, February 20 following reports of people on a roof.

“The incident is being treated as anti-social behaviour and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

Despite the exclusions, the school said it is feeling ‘positive’ and is excited to meet its new cohort of sixth form students later this year.

A school spokesman, said: “We have 120 applications for our sixth form next September which is excellent as only 57 came through last year.”
