A GREETINGS card retailer has revealed its plans to open a store in Burnham-on-Sea.

Card Factory has submitted a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council to gain consent to display one illuminated sign on the front of a shop on the town's High Street.

The store had previously been occupied by Clarks which closed in 2018 after bosses decided not to renew the store's lease.

The application does not reveal the greeting card giant's plans for the inside of the store and it is set to be considered by town and district planners later this year.

Marilyn Dodd, a resident who lives in Burnham-on-Sea, said: "Shops are struggling as it is.

"How sad for our little town to have another shop opening that is selling the same items as a few we already have in our High Street. Too sad."

Comments are welcome on the application until March 4. For details or to view the application visit www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/planning and type in application number 11/19/00008.
