TEN Somerset charities have received a cash boost thanks to a Burnham-on-Sea club.

NHS First Responders, The Free Wheelers Emergency Voluntary Service, Berrow Day Care Centre, Music for the Memory, In Charley's Memory, Bristol Children's Hospital and Young Carers were presented with cheques for £250 at a special event at the Fox and Goose Inn in Brent Knoll on Wednesday (March 6) .

The owner's of the Ritz Cinema in Burnham were also asked to select a charity and a £250 cheque was also donated to CLIC Sargent to help with their work in supporting young people with cancer.

Doug Plume, president of Burnham Lions Club said the event was a big success and thanked members for their hard work to raise the funds.

He said: "The money being handed out to these worthy causes was raised during the Lions annual Christmas collection, when our members stand at local supermarkets Asda, Tesco and Lidl with collection buckets.

"Burnham Lions Club are always pleased to hear from people who would like to become active members and meet once a month at the Fox and Goose in Brent Knoll.
